Videoconference Highlighting the Importance of Science Education Reaches More Than 350 Latin American Students

Liberia, Guanacaste-April 14, 2010

Ambassador Andrew hosted the first event- a digital video conference/webcast featuring Costa Rican-born U.S. astronaut Franklin Chang Diaz- at the newly established Science Corner on the Liberia campus of EARTH University in Guanacaste. Dr. Chang’s inspirational talk connected 30 local science students at the Science Corner with hundreds more who were connected electronically from the Costa Rican Binational Center, American Corner in Limon, students from various Science Colleges in Costa Rica and students in Asunción, Paraguay and Santiago, Chile.

Dr. Chang emphasized the importance of studying science and shared his experiences as former NASA astronaut and his vision on what the future of our planet and the universe will be.

Ambassador Andrew thanked the students from all countries who participated in this event. She echoed Dr. Chang’s words encouraging the students to follow their dreams and not permit anyone to tell them that they are impossible.
