U.S. Ambassador Anne Andrew traveled to the Limon province with a Costa Rican delegation headed by Foreign Minister Rene Castro to learn first-hand about the humanitarian work being carried out as part of Continuing Promise 2010. Commodore Tom Negus welcomed the delegation aboard the USS Iwo Jima where they got a tour of the facilities and were briefed on the numerous projects U.S. personnel, Costa Rican officials, NGOs and volunteers are engaging in within the local community.
At a press conference, Ambassador Andrew thanked the Chinchilla Administration and the people of Limon for supporting the joint effort. Vice-ministers of Security Mario Zamora and Jorge Chavarria, Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Health Mauricio Vargas, various legislators, President of the Red Cross Miguel Carmona, Director of the Fire Department Hector Chavez, among others were all part of the official delegation.
